Things have been a little icy here at Dessert For Two havenโt they?ย Iโve been trying my hardest to make you jealous:ย I have a live-in ice cream maker.ย Mr. Dessert For Two makes a batch every Sunday, which barely lasts til Wednesday.ย This summer has seen us through mint chocolate chip, vanilla, chai, and oatmeal stout.ย Are you drooling yet?
Ice cream is for lovers.ย And for chilling melted hearts. ย My heart has been a puddle on the floor lately.
A funny thing happens when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with someone.ย You become hyper-obsessed with their well-being.ย I mean this in a way past the obvious sentiment of โI love you and want you to be happy.โย I should probably give you some examples. ย In the beginning of our relationship, I used to sweetly say โdrive home safelyโ when he would drop me off after a date on Friday night.ย But, these days, itโs turned into โYOU BETTER DRIVE HOME SAFE AND COME HOME ALIVE BECAUSE WE HAVE A MORTGAGE TO PAY!!โ ย I think it comes across as a threat rather than a kindhearted sentiment.
Iโm not the only one whoโs guilty of this behavior.ย The Mr. is practically livid that I havenโt found a new doctor in our town.ย And donโt even get him started on the fact that I buy generic brand contact solution.ย โHow can you take chances with things like your VISION?!โย Itโs all loveโa funny form of love.
Another form of love?: ย Asking my live-in ice cream man to scoop store-boughtย ice cream into perfectly round scoops so I can fry them for you. ย Can I recommend Dryerโs/Edyโs coffee ice cream for this?
Letโs be real, though: ย I am not dropping cold ice cream into hot fry oil. ย Only a crazy person would do that (and only a crazy food blogger would expect to take decent photos after that mess, too!) ย So, I rolled these coffee ice cream scoops in sugar-ed and spiced corn flakes and declared them delicious. ย You will, too.
If you have the patience, make miniature bon-bons to dip in hot chocolate sauce for date night.
And go ahead, worry yourself nuts over your loved ones. ย Itโs what life is for, afterall.
Fried Ice Cream
Fried ice cream is an impressive dessert to serve!
Ingredients
- 2 large scoops of your favorite ice cream (I used Dryer's Coffee)
- 1 cup corn flakes
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons honey
- Optional: warm chocolate sauce
Instructions
- For the prettiest presentation, scoop your ice cream onto a sheet and place it back in the freezer.
- In a food processor, combine the corn flakes, powdered sugar and cinnamon and pulse for 10-15 seconds. Pour the mixture out into a shallow bowl. Drizzle the honey on top, then use your fingers to incorporate the honey into the flakes evenly. It's sticky, but worth it.
- Take your ice cream balls out of the freezer, then roll them quickly the crumbs. Serve drizzled with warm chocolate sauce and topped with a cherry.

wow, this is gorgeous!
Wow! Fried ice cream. I have once tasted fried ice cream from a resto in Japan, tasted really wonderful. never thought I can try it homemade =)
Just found your blog and love it!! But fried ice cream that isnโt fried should be a crime! Haha! When taken the time to do right, itโs so delicious. Itโs not hard to do, just takes forever. BTW, welcome to Kansas! I hope youโre getting all settled. From one Kansan to another.
Awesome idea for making fried ice cream without the mess ha ha. I also have the same issue of being obsessed with well being of my wife :)
