Tangerine sorbet made with fresh tangerine juice and lime juice, plus a hint of coriander for flavor. Plus, a tip for keeping sorbet soft and scoopable.
Cilantro haters, look away now. Also, unfriend me now because I seriously donโt understand people who donโt love cilantro. I am unabashedly in love with cilantro. I buy a bunch every week, along with scallions and limes. They are my go-to flavors. I love fresh ginger, too. Ok at this point, it would be easier to tell you about what I donโt buy each week rather than what I do (eggplants and tomatoes in plastic).
I first had an orange coriander sorbet at a champagne bar in Chicago (I think it was Pops?), and I fell in love with it. ย I scrawled it down on my inspirational / good God! life-is-worth-living list in my pocket notebook. ย That was months ago, and I never quite knew if the reason I thought it was so amazing was the copious amounts of champagne consumed beforehand. ย I am a bubbles girl at heart, and a glass in front of me instantly turns my outlook towards the rosy. ย And the way champagne makes me smile, well, I donโt know of anything else that can make me smile that way.
Long story. ย So, Iโve been meaning to make something sweet with coriander for a long time now.

If youโre not familiar with coriander, itโs the seed of the cilantro plant. ย It doesnโt taste exactly like cilantro, however. ย Tex-Mex food runs through my veins, so I can confidently tell you that coriander tastes like something green and verdant, albeit smoky. ย And just before the smokiness takes over your palate and it starts to taste like cumin, BAM, the green fresh flavor hits you. ย Itโs magical. ย Try it.
So, the vodka? ย Letโs give that a fair shake: ย Sorbets can get icy and hard when theyโre homemade. I employed my frozen margarita knowledge (a weak frozen marg will freeze solid because it lacks alcohol), so I stirred in just 1 tablespoon of the hard stuff. ย If youโre serving this to little ones, use corn syrup.
However, if you eatย this the same day itโs made, well, none of this is your problem. ย The sorbet wonโt turn icy for a day or two. ย I just finished the last of my batch of sorbet up this morning on day 5 with a scoop of plain yogurt on top. ย Still good.

Itโs SO freakin hot on in the Bay Area right now!! Get in my belly!!!
This looks insanely delicious. I like the idea of adding vodka (and will probably drizzle more before serving) :)
Wow! This looks so good. Thanks for the amazing recipe.
Good heavens, thanks very much for posting this! I found an amazing recipe for an Iced Green Tea Latte. You should try it, it was easy. So flavorful!
I just stumbled upon your blog to find this delicious treat awaiting for me. I couldnโt wait until summer is back and I just put my version of your lovely sorbet into the fridge. Due to the lack of tangerine juice in Sweden, I switched to my favorite blood orange juice and added some more fresh coriander. Now, I can hardly wait until everything is frozen to have a taste of this delicacy!

Oooh, Valerie! Now I want to make it with blood oranges! Thanks for the idea :)
I seriously need an ice cream maker now! I love sorbets, but the closest thing Iโve made from scratch is the frozen mashed bananas, which is also awesome, but not quite the same. :)
Did you know that liking or hating Cilantro is genetic? I love it, and my youngest daughter hates it. I was puzzled until I read an article like this one. Very enlightening!!

Give it a read!
Genetic problems with their taste buds. ;) My husband hates it too but I get it, it tastes like soap to him and he canโt help it. I still put it on my favorite dishes, just with a lighter hand.
Right? I totally understand that itโs a normal thing, but I call it a genetic โdefaultโ not a preference LOL.
Thatโs so interesting! I say itโs a genetic mutation/flaw ;)
Will this work in popsicle form? I recently made some fresh watermelon juice popsicles and while delicious, they were super icy. Good to know booze will help!
This flavor combo sounds interesting but really refreshing!
Ooh! I havenโt tried it in popsicle molds, but I bet it would! Report back :)
Iโm 100% with you on not understanding people who donโt like cilantro, itโs so delicious! Also, this got me so excited for the bottle of tangerine juice I bought on a whim yesterday, seriously perfect timing!
Thank you for this one โ so good!!! Iโm going to try it next time with a little more coriander. And, who knows, I may get bold and try even a different spice :)
